It's been a long time...

...since I last updated this site. I've been really busy the past few weeks I totally forgot I have this blog (I have 8 other blogs that I manage and need to constantly update but that's another story). A big "xie xie ni" to Joeven (aka iloveyalun@AF) for indirectly reminding me about this (she mentioned her blog in Filipinos thread in AF) and I'm just so glad she did else it's going to be another case of long forgotten blog page *lol*

Like what I've said, I've been really busy. In fact I just took a quick break to check updates in AF so I didn't prepare any post about a certain drama or certain actor nor do I have the time to make one now (I promised myself this is just going to be a quick post).

So anyways, if you're new here, drop me a line (at the left sidebar) and while you're at it, please do follow me too ;)

Hot Shot (籃球火)

"In a school where academic reigns supreme and sports are relegated to a dusty corner of the campus, Li Ying vows to revive the basketball team by volunteering to be the head coach. Her first member is Yuan Da Ying, a country boy who is passionate for basketball but has no skill. Their recruitment goes into high gear when Dong Fang Xiang, a legendary basketball player, transfers to their school.

Around the same time, Yuan Da Ying falls for Zhan Jie Er, a scholarship student who reminds him of his childhood friend GuGu Chicken. Author's POV: I love this show mainly for the fact that it made me think of what would happen next.

The whole ending, it seemed to me, was taken from "Bushido" or the way of the warrior which is the code of honor of the samurai of feudal Japan and consists of loyalty, frugality, mastery of martial arts and "honor unto death".

Loyalty would be represented with the story between Yuan Da Ying(YDY) and Dong Fang Xiang(DFX), frugality would be represented with YDY on how he was able to cope up with the pressure of the last competition using his own talent. Mastery of Martial arts, I'm guessing, would be each team's ability to defend themselves or others from physical threat (we've seen these throughout the series, and not just in basketball court) and "honor until death" would be represented by Wu Ji Zun(WJZ).

In a battle, a samurai would call out his family name, rank and accomplishment then seek out an opponent with similar rank and do battle (as what WJZ has done that's why he was adamant in helping DFX. If you remember the part when someone wants to kidnap DFX and WJZ helped them and he said something like DFX is the best rival in basketball court or something like that, I'm not really sure). The only way out for a defeated samurai was death or ritual suicide (I'm guessing would be WJZ's purpose at the end of the series and the reason why someone must die at the end of the show). Samurai consider killing themselves an act of honor than bringing shame and disgrace to his family name.

DFX and Zhan Jie Er(ZJE)'s story seems like just an add on to put some love story into the series.

But then again, that's just how I understand the story. And that's all just my guess.

Meteor Garden (流星花園)

I became addicted to asian dramas since I decided to learn Mandarin. The first one I've seen and loved was "Meteor Garden" but because I didn't want any other story than that, I didn't dare watch other dramas until just recently. Now, I've seen a lot of asian dramas and learned to love each one.

Meteor Garden

"The story centers on a plain and poor teenage girl called Shan Cai, who goes to a university for rich people, forced upon her by her parents. The university is dominated by a gang of handsome but arrogant students called F4, who are the heirs of the most influential families in Taiwan. In the beginning, Dao Ming Si, the gang leader, hates Shan Cai so much that he gives everyone in the university orders to make her life miserable. However, Shan Cai's persistence gradually gains Si's respect and later he falls in love with her. Like many other TV series, the lovers end up getting together after going through a series of painful challenges."

Main Cast:
Barbie Hsu as Shan Cai
Jerry Yan as Dao Ming Si
Vic Zhou as Hua Ze Lei
Vanness Wu as Mei Zuo Ling
Ken Chu as Xi Men

Supporting Cast:
Zheng Mei Dai (Belinda Cheng) as Baihe
Zhang Ruo Zhen as Qianhui

Rainie Yang as Xiaoyou
Winnie Qian as Tengtang Jing
Ke Huan Ru as Xiaozi
Mary Hsu as Dao Ming Zhuang

Author's POV: I love the Romeo and Juliet type of stories and this is so far one of the best I've seen. Every obstacles they have to surpass to prove their love for each other weren't as easy but they persevered. One thing I love about this drama is the strength of their friendship. They always give as much help to each other even if it means they have to let go of their happiness.
